Ingredients
Scale
Pork Chops
- 4 pork chops
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup butter (divided)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
Cheesy Potato Bake
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the potato casserole and pork chops.
- Season the Pork Chops: Season both sides of the pork chops generously with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
- Sauté Garlic Butter: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of the butter. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until you can smell the garlic aroma, being careful not to burn it.
- Sear the Pork Chops: Place the seasoned pork chops into the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Herb Butter Mixture: In a bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 cup of butter, thyme, rosemary, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well to create an aromatic herb butter sauce.
- Layer Potatoes: Grease a baking dish lightly. Arrange the thinly sliced potatoes in layers inside the dish, ensuring even coverage.
- Add Herb Butter to Potatoes: Pour the herb butter mixture evenly over the potatoes, making sure all slices are coated.
- Initial Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to allow the potatoes to soften.
- Add Cheese and Cream: Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the potatoes, then pour the heavy cream on top for a rich, creamy finish.
- Place Pork Chops on Top: Arrange the seared pork chops directly on top of the cheesy potatoes for the final baking.
- Final Bake: Bake uncovered for an additional 25-30 minutes until the potatoes are tender, cheese is bubbly and golden, and pork chops are fully cooked through.
- Serve: Carefully remove from oven and serve the garlic butter pork chops alongside the cheesy potato bake hot. Enjoy this comforting meal!
Notes
- Make sure to slice potatoes evenly to ensure uniform baking.
- Do not overcook garlic during sautéing to avoid bitterness.
- Use a fork to check potato tenderness before the final bake to adjust timing if necessary.
- Let pork chops rest for a few minutes after baking for juicier results.
- You can swap heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
- Fresh herbs can be substituted with dried, but reduce quantity to half.
