This Easy Hibachi Steak with Fried Rice recipe brings the authentic Japanese steakhouse experience to your home kitchen. Featuring tender NY Strip steak marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and Worcestershire sauce, paired perfectly with golden-brown fried rice loaded with veggies and a hint of sesame, this meal is quick, delicious, and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Marinade

  • 1½ lbs NY Strip Steak
  • 2 tbs low sodium soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 2 tbs sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbs ginger paste
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbs honey (optional)

Fried Rice

  • 6 cups cooked and cooled Basmati rice
  • 2 tbs sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 eggs
  • 12 oz bag frozen vegetables, thawed
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbs ginger paste
  • 1 tbs sesame seeds

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbs Sriracha
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger paste, Worcestershire sauce, and honey if using. This mixture will tenderize and flavor the NY Strip steak.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Coat the NY Strip steak with the marinade and let it rest while you prepare the fried rice, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Preheat Cooking Surface: Heat a griddle or two large pans on high heat for about 4 minutes to ensure they’re hot enough for searing the steak and frying the rice.
  4. Cook Fried Rice: Add sesame oil to the hot pan(s). Stir in the cooked and cooled Basmati rice, diced onion, and cracked eggs. Stir and toss continuously for about 3 minutes to cook the eggs through and combine ingredients evenly.
  5. Add Vegetables and Seasoning: Mix in the thawed frozen vegetables, then add the low sodium soy sauce, butter, minced garlic, ginger paste, and sesame seeds. Continue cooking for 5 minutes until a golden brown crust forms on the fried rice, indicating a perfect hibachi-style finish.
  6. Cook the Steak: Using the heated griddle or pan(s), sear the marinated NY Strip steak to your desired doneness. Typically, cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time based on steak thickness.
  7. Prepare the Sauce: Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Sriracha, and salt together in a small bowl to create a spicy, creamy sauce that complements the steak and rice.
  8. Serve: Slice the cooked steak against the grain and plate alongside generous servings of the golden fried rice. Drizzle or serve the spicy sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Use cooked and thoroughly cooled rice to prevent clumping and achieve a better fried rice texture.
  • For more authentic flavor, use sesame oil, but olive oil is a good substitute.
  • Adjust the honey quantity or omit it to control sweetness in the steak marinade.
  • Vegetables can be customized to your preference, fresh or frozen both work well.
  • Make sure to preheat the pan thoroughly for proper searing and crispy fried rice.
  • Let the steak rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain juices before slicing.
