Description

This Easter Dirt Cake Casserole is a fun and festive dessert featuring layers of chocolate pudding, creamy sweetened cream cheese, crushed Oreo cookies, and gummy worms, making it perfect for springtime celebrations and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Pudding Layer

  • 1 package (3.9 oz) chocolate instant pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping

Toppings

  • 1 package (15.25 oz) Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 1 cup gummy worms
  • 1/2 cup pastel sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the chocolate instant pudding mix and 2 cups of milk until combined. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes to thicken properly.
  2. Make the cream cheese filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add 1 cup of powdered sugar while continuing to beat until well blended. Gently fold in the 8 oz container of whipped topping until combined.
  3. Assemble the first layers: Spread half of the thickened chocolate pudding evenly across the bottom of a large serving dish.
  4. Add cream cheese layer: Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the pudding layer.
  5. Add Oreo layer: Sprinkle half of the crushed Oreo cookies over the cream cheese layer.
  6. Repeat layers: Repeat the layering by spreading the remaining chocolate pudding, followed by the remaining cream cheese mixture, and then topping with the remaining crushed Oreos.
  7. Garnish and chill: Scatter the gummy worms and optional pastel sprinkles on top of the final layer. Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and flavors to meld before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smoother filling.
  • For a firmer dessert, refrigerate beyond 2 hours, up to overnight.
  • Use full-fat ingredients for the creamiest texture.
  • Pastel sprinkles are optional but add a festive touch perfect for Easter.
  • Crushed Oreos can be substituted with any chocolate sandwich cookies if desired.
