Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Liquid
- 2 cups long-grain rice
- 4 cups water
Seasonings & Butter
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Rinse the rice: Rinse the long-grain rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch and prevent clumping.
- Boil water: In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Add butter and seasonings: Stir in the butter, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper into the boiling water, letting the butter melt completely and the spices infuse.
- Add rice and return to boil: Stir in the rinsed rice, ensuring it’s evenly distributed, and bring the mixture back to a boil.
- Simmer covered: Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Let the rice simmer gently for 18 to 20 minutes, allowing it to absorb the water and the flavors fully.
- Rest the rice: Remove the pot from heat and keep it covered. Let the rice sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to steam and finish cooking evenly.
- Fluff and serve: Use a fork to gently fluff the rice, separating the grains, and serve warm as a comforting side dish.
Notes
- Rinsing the rice removes starch and prevents it from becoming gummy.
- Adjust the seasoning amounts according to your taste preference.
- Use a pot with a thick bottom to avoid burning the rice.
- For a richer flavor, substitute half of the water with chicken broth if not keeping strictly vegetarian.
- Covering the pot tightly during simmering helps the rice cook evenly.
