Description

This Yuzu Orange Dutch Baby is a light and airy oven pancake infused with bright citrus flavors from fresh orange and yuzu juice. Perfectly puffed and golden, it offers a delightful tang with every bite, making it an elegant brunch or breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup whole milk at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon yuzu juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Dry Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh orange zest

For Serving

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Fresh orange slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a 10-inch oven-safe skillet inside to heat thoroughly while preparing the batter.
  2. Prepare the Batter: In a blender, combine the eggs, milk, flour, sugar, salt, orange zest, orange juice, yuzu juice, and vanilla extract. Blend until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy, about 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. Heat the Butter: Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Add the butter to the skillet and swirl it around to coat the entire pan as the butter melts, creating a rich base for the batter.
  4. Pour and Bake: Pour the prepared batter into the hot butter-coated skillet. Immediately return the skillet to the oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes. Bake undisturbed until the Dutch baby is puffed up and the edges turn a beautiful golden brown.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the Dutch baby from the oven, dust it generously with powdered sugar, and serve immediately. Garnish with fresh orange slices if desired for an extra burst of citrus flavor.

Notes

  • Using room temperature eggs and milk helps the Dutch baby to puff properly during baking.
  • For an extra touch of sweetness, drizzle with honey or maple syrup before serving.
  • If yuzu juice is unavailable, you can substitute with an extra tablespoon of fresh orange juice plus a squeeze of lemon to mimic the tart citrus flavor.
