- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 8 slices rye bread
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

- Form ground beef into 4 thin patties slightly larger than the bread slices. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. On the unbuttered side, spread secret sauce.
- Layer one slice of cheddar, a beef patty, caramelized onions, one slice of Swiss, and top with another bread slice, sauce side in.
- Grill each sandwich in a skillet over medium heat until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Use a cast iron skillet for the best grilled crust on the bread.
- You can substitute cheese types based on preference.
- For extra crunch, add a layer of pickles inside the sandwich.
