Description

A classic comfort food, Tuna Melt Grilled Sandwiches feature a creamy tuna salad with melted cheese, toasted between golden, buttery slices of bread.


Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 8 slices bread (sourdough or sandwich bread)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, celery, red onion, salt, pepper, and lemon juice until well combined.
  2. Lay out the bread slices and spread butter on one side of each slice.
  3. Flip 4 of the slices over (buttered side down) and top each with tuna mixture and a slice of cheese.
  4. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
  5. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  6. Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve warm.
