Description

This Sweet and Savory Honey Butter Chicken recipe combines crispy chicken thighs coated in a light flour and cornstarch mixture, sautéed to golden perfection, and glazed with a luscious honey butter sauce infused with garlic, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Finished with fresh parsley for a bright, herbaceous touch, this quick and flavorful dish is perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner you’ll want to make again and again.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coating

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into 2″ pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken thighs into 2-inch bite-sized pieces. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss the chicken pieces in this dry mixture until they are evenly and lightly coated.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil shimmers, arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer. Cook for about 8 minutes on one side until golden brown and crispy, then flip and cook for another 8 minutes until crispy and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic: Add the sliced garlic to the hot skillet and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Make the Sauce: Reduce the heat to low. Add the cold butter, honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar to the skillet. Stir well to combine, allowing the butter to melt and create a rich, glossy sauce. If desired, add a splash of water to thin the sauce to your preferred consistency.
  5. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the crispy chicken pieces to the skillet. Toss gently to coat each piece thoroughly in the honey butter sauce.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the glazed chicken for a fresh burst of color and flavor. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your sweet and savory meal.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the honey amount to 1/4 cup.
  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
  • Serve this dish with steamed rice or your favorite vegetables to complete the meal.
  • Ensure the oil is hot before adding the chicken to get the crispiest coating.
