Description

A rich and indulgent breakfast casserole made with layers of fluffy bread, fresh strawberries, and a sweet cream mixture, baked to perfection for a crowd-pleasing morning treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Maple syrup (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread half of the bread cubes in the bottom.
  2. Sprinkle half of the sliced strawberries over the bread.
  3. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture over the strawberries and bread.
  4. Top with remaining bread cubes and strawberries.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour evenly over the casserole.
  6. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 20-25 minutes until golden and set.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for best texture.
  • Substitute strawberries with mixed berries for variation.
  • Casserole can be assembled the night before for easy morning preparation.
