- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
- Cooked basmati rice, for serving
Instructions
- Place chicken, onion, garlic, and ginger in the slow cooker.
- In a bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, yogurt, cream, butter, and all the spices (garam masala, curry powder, turmeric, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper).
- Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker and stir to coat evenly.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender.
- Stir well before serving and garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve hot with cooked basmati rice or naan bread.
Notes
- Use chicken thighs for more flavor and tenderness, but chicken breasts can also be used.
- Adjust the spice level to your preference by increasing or reducing chili powder.
- For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or coconut milk for heavy cream.
