Description

Skillet Fried Corn is a Southern classic side dish made with fresh or frozen corn, butter, and a touch of seasoning. It’s savory, slightly sweet, and full of comforting flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  2. Once the butter is melted, add the chopped onion (if using) and sauté until translucent, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the corn kernels to the skillet and stir well to combine.
  4. Cook the corn for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it begins to brown slightly and is tender.
  5. If using, stir in the heavy cream and cook for another 2-3 minutes to thicken slightly.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar (if using) to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

  • Fresh corn is best, but frozen or canned corn can be used as well.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
