Description

Skillet Fried Corn is a Southern-style side dish made with fresh or frozen corn kernels, cooked in butter with savory seasonings for a flavorful and slightly crispy finish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk (optional, for creamier texture)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the corn kernels and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes until slightly browned and tender.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar if using. Stir well.
  5. Add heavy cream or milk if desired, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through and creamy.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

  • Fresh corn gives the best flavor, but frozen works well too.
  • You can add a pinch of paprika or cayenne for a spicier version.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in a skillet.
