Description

Savory seitan strips served with a tangy mustard dip, perfect as an appetizer or snack for plant-based diets.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup vital wheat gluten
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Add vegetable broth and soy sauce to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until elastic, then let it rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Slice the dough into thin strips.
  5. Steam the seitan strips for 25 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  6. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the seitan strips until golden brown on all sides.
  7. In a small bowl, mix vegan mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, maple syrup, and lemon juice to make the mustard dip.
  8. Serve the seitan strips warm with the mustard dip on the side.

Notes

  • You can bake the seitan strips instead of frying for a lower fat option.
  • Adjust the mustard dip sweetness by varying the maple syrup amount.
  • Seitan can be made in advance and refrigerated for up to 5 days.
