Perfect for feeding a crowd, this dish is easy to prepare and bakes to golden perfection with bubbly, cheesy goodness on top.
Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
Sausage Gravy
- 0.5 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 0.75 cup whole milk
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or sheet pan. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the dish, making sure to seal all the seams. Bake the crust for 8 minutes until it is lightly golden.
- Cook the sausage: While the crust bakes, place the ground breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned and crumbled, ensuring the sausage is fully cooked but do not drain the grease as it will help with the gravy.
- Make the gravy: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage and stir for about 1 minute to cook the flour. Gradually whisk in the whole milk and continue stirring until the gravy thickens, approximately 3–5 minutes. Season with black pepper to taste.
- Assemble the pizza: Once the crust is pre-baked, spread the sausage gravy evenly over it to cover the surface.
- Add cheeses: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the sausage gravy layer.
- Bake to melt cheese: Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into 12 squares and serving warm.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, use spicy breakfast sausage or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the gravy.
- Make sure to seal the crescent roll seams well to prevent the gravy from leaking out during baking.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Fresh parsley adds a bright flavor and attractive garnish but can be omitted if not available.
