Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 (10.8-oz) bag soft caramels, unwrapped
- 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (10-oz) bag mini marshmallows
- 2 tsp flaky sea salt
- 10 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray or softened butter and line it with parchment paper, allowing a few inches of overhang for easy removal of the treats later.
- Melt Butter and Caramels: In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Add the unwrapped caramels and cook, stirring frequently until they are fully melted and smooth.
- Add Condensed Milk and Salt: Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and flaky sea salt, mixing until the caramel mixture is fully combined and uniform in texture.
- Melt Marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the pot and stir continuously until they are melted and the mixture becomes smooth and cohesive. Remove the pot from heat at this point.
- Combine with Cereal: Carefully fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, stirring thoroughly to evenly coat all the cereal with the caramel marshmallow mixture without crushing the cereal.
- Transfer and Press: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Use the parchment paper to gently press the mixture down, being careful not to overpack to maintain a light texture. Optionally, sprinkle additional flaky sea salt on top for extra flavor.
- Chill and Set: Refrigerate the pan for 1 to 2 hours until the treats are firm and set. Once chilled, lift out the block using the parchment overhang and cut into 18 squares for serving.
Notes
- Use high-quality soft caramels for the best flavor and melt consistency.
- Press the cereal mixture gently to avoid dense treats; they should be light and crispy.
- Adding extra flaky sea salt on top enhances the salted caramel flavor and adds a nice crunch.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
- For easier cutting, warm a knife in hot water and dry it before slicing the treats.
