Description

These Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats offer a delightful twist on the classic dessert, combining the crispy texture of Rice Krispies with a luscious salted caramel and marshmallow mixture. Perfect for a sweet snack or party treat, they are easy to make and irresistibly delicious with a balance of sweet and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 (10.8-oz) bag soft caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (10-oz) bag mini marshmallows
  • 2 tsp flaky sea salt
  • 10 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray or softened butter and line it with parchment paper, allowing a few inches of overhang for easy removal of the treats later.
  2. Melt Butter and Caramels: In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Add the unwrapped caramels and cook, stirring frequently until they are fully melted and smooth.
  3. Add Condensed Milk and Salt: Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and flaky sea salt, mixing until the caramel mixture is fully combined and uniform in texture.
  4. Melt Marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the pot and stir continuously until they are melted and the mixture becomes smooth and cohesive. Remove the pot from heat at this point.
  5. Combine with Cereal: Carefully fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, stirring thoroughly to evenly coat all the cereal with the caramel marshmallow mixture without crushing the cereal.
  6. Transfer and Press: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Use the parchment paper to gently press the mixture down, being careful not to overpack to maintain a light texture. Optionally, sprinkle additional flaky sea salt on top for extra flavor.
  7. Chill and Set: Refrigerate the pan for 1 to 2 hours until the treats are firm and set. Once chilled, lift out the block using the parchment overhang and cut into 18 squares for serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality soft caramels for the best flavor and melt consistency.
  • Press the cereal mixture gently to avoid dense treats; they should be light and crispy.
  • Adding extra flaky sea salt on top enhances the salted caramel flavor and adds a nice crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
  • For easier cutting, warm a knife in hot water and dry it before slicing the treats.
