Description
Salisbury Steak is a classic American comfort dish made with seasoned ground beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter, sliced mushrooms, and onions. Cook until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually add beef broth and Dijon mustard, stirring until smooth.
- Return the patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until cooked through and the gravy thickens.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
- Add a splash of red wine to the gravy for extra depth of flavor.
- Can be made ahead and reheated.
