Description

Salisbury Steak is a classic American comfort dish made with seasoned ground beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add butter, sliced mushrooms, and onions. Cook until softened.
  5. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Gradually add beef broth and Dijon mustard, stirring until smooth.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
  • Add a splash of red wine to the gravy for extra depth of flavor.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated.
