Description

A festive and colorful marble cake featuring swirls of red, white, and blue—perfect for patriotic celebrations like the 4th of July or Memorial Day.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch bundt pan or two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  6. Divide batter into three equal parts. Tint one part red, one part blue, and leave the third part plain.
  7. Spoon dollops of each color into the prepared pan(s), alternating colors to create a marbled effect. Swirl lightly with a knife for a more blended marble effect.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors without thinning the batter.
  • Can be served with whipped cream or topped with a simple glaze.
  • Make sure not to over-swirl to maintain the distinct colors.
