- 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 (3 oz) package strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin
- 1 (3 oz) package berry blue flavored gelatin
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven according to the cake mix instructions and prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Prepare the white cake mix as directed on the box and bake in the prepared pan. Allow to cool for 15–20 minutes.
- Using a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cooled cake.
- Dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 1/2 cup boiling water, then add 1/4 cup cold water. Stir until dissolved.
- Carefully pour the red gelatin over one half of the cake, letting it seep into the holes.
- Repeat with the berry blue gelatin on the other half of the cake.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to set the gelatin.
- Spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
- Decorate with red, white, and blue sprinkles, if desired.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

- Ensure the cake is completely cooled before adding gelatin.
- Use a measuring cup with a spout to pour gelatin more precisely.
- Try using flavored whipped topping for an extra twist.
