A festive and colorful Red, White, and Blue Fourth of July Cake that’s perfect for patriotic celebrations, featuring layers of vibrant vanilla cake and rich buttercream frosting.

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Red food coloring
- Blue food coloring
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
- Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Color one bowl red, one blue, and leave one white.
- Pour each colored batter into a separate prepared pan. Smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream. Beat until fluffy.
- Level the cake layers if needed. Stack the blue layer on the bottom, spread a layer of frosting, add the white layer, more frosting, then the red layer.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with remaining frosting. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.
Notes
- You can use gel food coloring for more vibrant hues.
- Cakes can be baked ahead and frozen for up to a week.
- Let the cake sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving if refrigerated.
