Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich
- 2 slices rye or marble rye bread
- 2 tablespoons Russian or Thousand Island dressing
- 4 slices deli turkey breast
- 1/3 cup coleslaw (drained if wet)
- 2 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter (softened)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Spread Russian or Thousand Island dressing evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- Assemble the Sandwich: On one slice of bread, dressing side up, layer the turkey breast slices, followed by the coleslaw and then the Swiss cheese slices. Top with the second slice of bread, dressing side down.
- Butter the Sandwich: Spread softened butter on the outer sides of the sandwich to ensure a crisp, golden crust when grilling.
- Heat the Skillet: Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat to prepare for grilling.
- Grill the Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the heated pan and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, gently pressing down, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted thoroughly.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the pan, slice it in half, and serve hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a flavorful twist, substitute deli turkey with pastrami or corned beef.
- Swap the coleslaw for sauerkraut to make the sandwich closer to a traditional Reuben style.
- This sandwich pairs perfectly with pickles and kettle chips for a complete meal experience.
