- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of deli ham
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for drizzling or pan-frying)
- Toothpicks (for securing rolls)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Pound the chicken breasts to about 1/4 inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap.
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each breast, then roll up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
- Season flour with salt and pepper in a shallow bowl.
- Beat the eggs in another bowl. Add Dijon mustard if using.
- Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, then dip into the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the crust is golden brown.
- Remove toothpicks before serving. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use toothpicks to keep the rolls tightly secured while baking.
- Panko breadcrumbs give a crispier texture.
- Optional: Add a creamy mustard sauce for serving.
- Let the rolls rest for a few minutes before cutting to keep cheese from oozing out.
