Description

A deliciously rich and creamy Oreo Pudding Poke Cake featuring moist chocolate cake infused with instant Oreo pudding, topped with fluffy whipped topping and crunchy crushed Oreos. Perfect for parties and celebrations, this easy-to-make dessert combines classic chocolate flavors with iconic Oreo cookies for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix (Betty Crocker’s Chocolate Fudge cake mix recommended)
  • Ingredients listed on cake mix box (eggs, oil, and water as required)

Pudding & Topping

  • 2 boxes (4 ounces each) Instant Oreo pudding mix
  • 3 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 1 tub (8 ounces) whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
  • 6 Oreo cookies, crushed

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray and set aside to ensure easy cake removal.
  2. Make and bake cake: Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the instructions on the box, incorporating eggs, oil, and water as directed. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about the time specified on the box. Allow cake to cool for 10 minutes to make it easier to poke holes without crumbling.
  3. Poke holes and prepare pudding: Using the handle of a wooden spoon or spatula, poke holes all over the warm cake spaced at least 1 inch apart. In a medium bowl, whisk together both boxes of Instant Oreo pudding mix with 3 cups of milk until combined and thickened; this should take about one minute. Note that a slightly lumpy texture is normal due to Oreo pieces in the pudding mix.
  4. Fill holes with pudding: Pour the thickened Oreo pudding evenly over the cake, spreading it gently with the back of a spoon to fill the holes thoroughly and cover the entire cake surface.
  5. Add whipped topping and Oreos: Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the pudding layer. Sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies evenly over the top for added texture and flavor.
  6. Chill and serve: Refrigerate the poke cake for at least one hour to allow the pudding to set and flavors to meld. Slice into pieces and serve chilled for a delightful dessert experience.

Notes

  • Ensure cake is still warm, not hot, when poking holes to avoid breaking apart.
  • Use whole milk for a richer pudding consistency or 2% for a lighter option.
  • For extra Oreo flavor, consider folding some crushed Oreos into the whipped topping before spreading.
  • Refrigerate leftovers and consume within 3-4 days for best freshness.
  • This dessert can be made a day ahead to enhance flavors and save time on serving day.
