Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 4 cups chicken broth or water
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Season the beef with salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
- Stir in marinara sauce and chicken broth, bringing the mixture to a boil.
- Break spaghetti in half and add to the pot. Stir to submerge all the noodles in the liquid.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is cooked and liquid is mostly absorbed.
- Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese if using. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter or vegetarian option.
- Adjust the amount of broth depending on the thickness of your sauce and the type of pasta.
- For a creamier texture, stir in a splash of heavy cream or cream cheese at the end.
