- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 12 oz pasta (penne or fusilli), cooked
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef or turkey, salt, pepper, and oregano. Cook until browned, breaking up meat with a spoon, about 6-8 minutes.
- Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, and half of the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish. Top with remaining cheeses.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
- Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta as desired.
- Swap ground meat with lentils or plant-based meat for a vegetarian option.
