Scale
Main Ingredients
- 8 cups corn Chex cereal
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup chocolate chips (milk or semisweet, preferably Guittard or Ghirardelli)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
Optional Add-ins
- Miniature M&M’s
- Mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Measure Cereal: Measure 8 cups of corn Chex cereal into a large bowl and set it aside. This will be your base for coating.
- Combine Ingredients: In a separate large microwave-safe bowl, combine 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, 1 cup chocolate chips, 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Microwave the mixture in 15-second bursts, stirring after each burst for 15 seconds, until smooth and fully melted. Then, stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Coat Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the cereal. Gently stir the cereal with a spatula to coat evenly, being careful not to crush the cereal pieces.
- Shake with Powdered Sugar: Divide the coated cereal mixture into two halves. Place half of it into a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag, add half of the 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake vigorously until the cereal is well coated. Repeat with the remaining half and powdered sugar.
- Finish and Serve: Pour the coated Muddy Buddies into a large serving bowl. If desired, gently fold in miniature M&M’s or mini chocolate chips for added fun and flavor. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
Notes
- Be gentle while stirring the cereal with the chocolate mixture to prevent crushing the pieces.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor experience.
- Store Muddy Buddies in an airtight container to keep them fresh and crunchy for several days.
- You can customize this recipe by adding nuts or different types of candy mixes according to preference.
- If you do not have a microwave, melt the peanut butter, chocolate chips, butter, and salt together in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method).
