Description

Mongolian Chicken is a flavorful stir-fry dish featuring tender chicken pieces cooked in a sweet and savory soy-based sauce with garlic and ginger.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Coat the sliced chicken pieces in cornstarch and set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. In a skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the chicken and cook until golden and crispy, about 5-6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  5. Add soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
  7. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Garnish with green onions and serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, fry chicken in batches without overcrowding the pan.
  • You can substitute chicken with tofu for a vegetarian version.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli for extra nutrition.
