Description

Mexican Ground Beef Tacos are a classic, quick, and delicious meal featuring seasoned beef tucked into crispy or soft tortillas and topped with your favorite fixings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce or water
  • 8 small taco shells or tortillas
  • Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, avocado, cilantro

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat (if using). Add chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and sauté for 1 more minute.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to coat the meat evenly with spices.
  4. Add tomato sauce or water to the skillet. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Warm taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions.
  6. Fill each taco shell with the beef mixture and top with your favorite taco toppings.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner alternative.
  • Make the beef mixture ahead of time for quick weeknight meals.
  • This recipe is easily doubled for larger crowds or meal prep.
