- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

- Food coloring (variety of colors)
- Frosting of choice (e.g., buttercream)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly into separate bowls, depending on how many layers/colors you want.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired colors are achieved.
- Spoon a small amount of one color into the bottom of each cupcake liner, then gently layer the next color on top. Repeat with all colors.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool completely, then frost as desired.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for more vibrant layers.
- Be careful not to overfill the cupcake liners.
- Let each layer settle slightly before adding the next to get distinct layers.
