Description

Layered cupcakes are a fun and visually appealing treat made by stacking different flavors or colors of batter in cupcake liners and baking them into a delicious dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Food coloring (variety of colors)
  • Frosting of choice (e.g., buttercream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into separate bowls, depending on how many layers/colors you want.
  7. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired colors are achieved.
  8. Spoon a small amount of one color into the bottom of each cupcake liner, then gently layer the next color on top. Repeat with all colors.
  9. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cupcakes cool completely, then frost as desired.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for more vibrant layers.
  • Be careful not to overfill the cupcake liners.
  • Let each layer settle slightly before adding the next to get distinct layers.
