Description

Lasagna Roll Ups offer a delightful twist on classic lasagna by rolling seasoned cheese filling inside cooked noodles and topping them with savory meat sauce and melted mozzarella. This comforting Italian-American dish is perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings, delivering all the flavors of traditional lasagna in a fun, easy-to-serve format.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Filling

  • 1 container (15 ounces) Ricotta Cheese
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried Parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder

Meat Sauce

  • 1/2 pound lean Ground Beef
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) Spaghetti Sauce

Other Ingredients

  • 9 Lasagna Noodles
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling mixture: In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, 1 cup shredded mozzarella, beaten egg, dried parsley, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir thoroughly to create a smooth, well-seasoned filling. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate while you prepare the noodles and sauce.
  2. Cook noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and carefully lay the noodles out on a large cookie sheet lined with wax paper, making sure noodles do not touch to prevent sticking.
  3. Make meat sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned. Drain excess grease. Add the jar of spaghetti sauce to the skillet and simmer the mixture for 5-10 minutes until heated through and well combined. Set aside 1/3 of this meat sauce for the baking dish base.
  4. Assemble roll ups: Remove the cheese mixture from the fridge. Spread approximately 1/4 cup of the cheese filling evenly onto each lasagna noodle. Carefully roll up each noodle and place seam-side down into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Repeat for all nine noodles.
  5. Bake the dish: Pour the remaining meat sauce evenly over the roll ups in the baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 30 minutes, or until hot, bubbly, and the cheese is melted and slightly golden. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Be careful when laying out the noodles after boiling to avoid sticking; using wax paper is highly effective.
  • You can prepare the cheese filling in advance to save time day of cooking.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit the ground beef and substitute the sauce with a vegetable marinara.
  • Ensure meat is thoroughly cooked and drained well to avoid excess grease in the sauce.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
