Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Mixture
- 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (half of an 8-ounce package)
- 3 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Meat Sauce
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- ½ (26-ounce) jar marinara sauce
Base
- 6 flatbreads
- 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining half of the 8-ounce package)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the flatbreads.
- Prepare cheese mixture: In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended.
- Cook sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the sausage. Cook, breaking it apart, until no longer pink, about 5 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the pan. Stir in the marinara sauce until the meat is well coated.
- Assemble flatbreads: Lay the flatbreads on a baking sheet. Spread an even layer of the cheese mixture over each flatbread, followed by an even distribution of the sausage and marinara mixture. Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella over the top.
- Bake: Place the prepared flatbreads in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbling.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve hot for a comforting and flavorful meal.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, use spicy Italian sausage instead of mild.
- You can substitute flatbreads with naan or pita for a different texture.
- Leftover flatbreads can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
- Adding fresh basil or oregano on top before serving enhances the flavor.
- If you prefer a vegetarian version, omit sausage and add sautéed vegetables like mushrooms and bell peppers.
