Description

This creamy, homemade hummus is smooth, flavorful, and perfect as a dip or spread. Made with chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil, it’s a healthy and easy recipe that comes together in minutes.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)

  • 1/4 cup well-stirred tahini

  • 1 small garlic clove, minced

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus more for serving

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons water

  • Dash of paprika, for garnish (optional)

  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  • In a food processor, combine tahini and lemon juice. Process for 1 minute until creamy.

  • Add the minced garlic, cumin, and a pinch of salt. Blend again.

  • Add the chickpeas and process until thick and smooth.

  • While processing, slowly drizzle in the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of water. Scrape the sides as needed.

  • Blend until you reach a creamy, smooth consistency. Add an extra tablespoon of water if too thick.

  • Taste and adjust salt, lemon, or garlic as needed.

 

  • Serve in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and garnish with paprika and parsley if desired.


Notes

  • For an even smoother texture, peel the chickpeas before blending.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

 

  • Great served with pita, crackers, or fresh veggies.
