- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 8 small taco shells or tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- Sour cream and lime wedges for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Add tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Warm taco shells according to package instructions.
- Fill each shell with the ground beef mixture and top with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and cilantro.
- Serve with sour cream and lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- For a spicier version, increase the cayenne or add diced jalapeños.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for a leaner option.
- Toppings can be customized with guacamole, salsa, or pickled onions.
