Description

These classic ground beef tacos are quick, easy, and loaded with flavor. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 small taco shells or tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Sour cream and lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper.
  5. Add tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Warm taco shells according to package instructions.
  7. Fill each shell with the ground beef mixture and top with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and cilantro.
  8. Serve with sour cream and lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, increase the cayenne or add diced jalapeños.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for a leaner option.
  • Toppings can be customized with guacamole, salsa, or pickled onions.
