Description

Grilled Cheese Skewers are a fun and delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, perfect for parties or as a kid-friendly snack. These bite-sized sandwiches are grilled to golden perfection, threaded onto skewers, and can be customized with optional extras like tomato, cooked bacon, or mozzarella slices for extra flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 slices white or sourdough bread
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)
  • Wooden skewers

Optional Extras

  • Sliced tomato
  • Cooked bacon
  • Mozzarella slices

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Lay out the bread slices and spread softened butter on one side of each slice. This buttered side will help create a crispy, golden exterior when grilling.
  2. Assemble the sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of 4 bread slices, evenly spread the shredded cheddar cheese and add any optional extras such as sliced tomato, cooked bacon, or mozzarella slices if desired. Top each with the remaining bread slices, ensuring the buttered sides face outward to maximize browning.
  3. Grill the sandwiches: Place each sandwich on the preheated grill pan or skillet. Grill for 2–3 minutes per side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted inside. Use olive oil if needed to prevent sticking and add flavor.
  4. Cool and cut: Remove the grilled sandwiches from heat and let them cool slightly to prevent cheese from spilling out when cutting. Cut each sandwich into 4 equal squares to create bite-sized pieces.
  5. Thread onto skewers: Thread 2–3 sandwich bites onto each wooden skewer. For a crisp finish on all sides, optionally return the skewers briefly to the grill pan to lightly grill the exposed edges of the sandwich pieces.
  6. Serve warm: Serve the grilled cheese skewers warm, perfect for dipping into tomato soup or marinara sauce.

Notes

  • These skewers are perfect for dipping in tomato soup or marinara sauce.
  • Try mixing cheeses like pepper jack or gouda for a flavor variety.
  • Using crustless bread can help create a neater presentation.
