Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Fold the dough in half and gently pat down again. Repeat this folding process 2-3 times for extra flaky layers.
- Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Use cold ingredients to ensure flakiness.
- Do not overwork the dough; it can make the biscuits tough.
- For extra flavor, add shredded cheese or herbs to the dough.
