Description

These fluffy and delicious homemade biscuits are perfect for breakfast or as a side dish for any meal. With a golden crust and soft, tender inside, they’re simple to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Fold the dough in half and gently pat down again. Repeat this folding process 2-3 times for extra flaky layers.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients to ensure flakiness.
  • Do not overwork the dough; it can make the biscuits tough.
  • For extra flavor, add shredded cheese or herbs to the dough.
