Description

These fluffy and delicious homemade biscuits are buttery, soft on the inside, and perfectly golden on the outside. Ideal for breakfast or as a side with your favorite meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for slight sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the buttermilk and honey (if using) to the flour mixture and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  6. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle and use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits.
  7. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet with sides touching for softer edges or apart for crispier edges.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving warm with butter or jam.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter and buttermilk for the best rise and flakiness.
  • Do not overwork the dough to keep the biscuits tender.
  • For extra flavor, brush the tops with melted butter after baking.
