Ingredients
Scale
Churro Dough
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- Non-stick cooking spray (for air fryer basket)
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the liquid mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine water, milk, butter, granulated sugar, and salt over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture boils and butter fully melts.
- Add the flour: Lower heat to low and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Continue stirring for about 2 minutes to cook the flour slightly.
- Cool the dough: Remove the pan from heat and allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes to prevent scrambling the eggs in the next step.
- Add vanilla: Stir in vanilla extract until evenly combined.
- Incorporate eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough is smooth, glossy, and well combined.
- Preheat air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes to ensure optimal cooking temperature.
- Prepare air fryer basket: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Pipe churro bites: Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1 to 2-inch long churro bites onto the air fryer basket, leaving enough space between bites for expansion.
- Air fry: Cook the churro bites for 8 to 10 minutes or until they puff up and turn golden brown. If necessary, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Mix coating: While the churro bites cook, combine the 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
- Coat the churro bites: Once cooked, immediately roll the churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat them evenly while still warm.
- Serve: Enjoy the churro bites warm for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- For best results, use a pastry bag with a large star tip to achieve the classic churro ridges.
- If you don’t have a pastry bag, a zip-top bag with a small corner cut off can be used as an alternative.
- Work in batches in the air fryer to avoid overcrowding and ensure that churro bites cook evenly and become crispy.
- Serve immediately for the crispiest texture; they may soften if left out too long.
- You can add a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce as a dipping option for extra indulgence.
