Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 1 1/2 pounds apples (about 3–4 medium, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup milk
Optional
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Toss Apples: In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning and enhance flavor. Set aside.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until evenly combined.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter with granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, which takes about 3-4 minutes.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Combine Batter: Gradually add the flour mixture into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fold in Apples: Gently fold half of the sliced apples into the batter to distribute the fruit evenly.
- Assemble Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared 9-inch pan and spread it evenly. Arrange the remaining apple slices on top in a circular decorative pattern for an attractive finish.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then remove the springform sides and cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
Notes
- Use tart apples such as Granny Smith or a combination of sweet and tart apples for a well-rounded flavor.
- The cake is best enjoyed within 2 days when kept at room temperature.
- For longer freshness, store the cake in the refrigerator.
