Description

A simple and creamy mashed potatoes recipe made with just a few ingredients — perfect as a side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (more if needed)
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  4. Add butter and begin mashing the potatoes.
  5. Gradually add milk, mashing until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if a softer texture is desired.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use warm milk to keep the potatoes hot and help them absorb the liquid better.
  • For extra flavor, add garlic or cream cheese.
  • Do not overmix to avoid gummy texture.
