Ingredients
Scale
Fudge Base
- 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Optional Mix-ins
- ½ cup chopped nuts
- ½ cup crushed candy
- ½ cup mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring some overhang on the sides to easily lift the fudge out once it has set.
- Melt Ingredients: Place a medium saucepan over low heat and combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and unsalted butter. Stir the mixture constantly to prevent scorching, until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Add Flavorings: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract along with a pinch of salt to enhance the fudge’s flavor. If using, fold in any optional add-ins such as chopped nuts, crushed candy, or mini marshmallows evenly throughout the fudge mixture.
- Set the Fudge: Pour the smooth fudge mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula to smooth the top surface.
- Chill to Firm Up: Place the pan in the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours or until the fudge is completely firm and set.
- Cut and Serve: Using the parchment paper overhang, lift the fudge from the pan. Transfer to a cutting board and cut into approximately 36 small squares. Serve chilled for the best texture and taste.
Notes
- Store fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks to maintain freshness.
- For longer storage, freeze fudge wrapped tightly to prevent freezer burn.
- Customize this recipe by substituting white chocolate chips, adding peppermint extract, or swirling in peanut butter for unique flavor variations.
