Description

Dutch Caramel Apple Pie is a delicious twist on the classic apple pie, featuring a buttery streusel topping and rich caramel sauce for an indulgent dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (for topping)
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges as desired.
  3. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, vanilla, and caramel sauce until well coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust and spread evenly.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugars, and cinnamon for the topping. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake the pie for 50–60 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Cover the pie with foil during the last 15–20 minutes if the topping browns too quickly.
  8. Remove from oven and cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
  9. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture.
  • You can make the caramel sauce homemade or use store-bought.
  • Pie can be made a day ahead and stored at room temperature.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
