- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form into meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter, sliced onions, and mushrooms. Sauté until soft and golden.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and mushrooms, stir and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and ketchup, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens slightly.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until fully cooked. Add cornstarch slurry if thicker gravy is desired.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or noodles.
