Description

Decorated Focaccia Bread is a visually stunning and deliciously fluffy Italian flatbread, adorned with herbs and vegetables to create edible art.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (plus more for greasing and drizzling)
  • Assorted vegetables for decoration (e.g., cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, red onion, olives)
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme, parsley)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Grease a baking sheet or pan with olive oil. Transfer the dough and press it evenly into the pan.
  6. Cover and let the dough rise again for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  8. Decorate the top of the dough with sliced vegetables and herbs to create patterns or images.
  9. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use colorful vegetables to create vibrant designs.
  • Don’t press decorations too deep into the dough to avoid sinking.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
