Description

A simple and easy Crockpot Bread recipe that allows you to bake fresh homemade bread without using an oven. Perfect for beginners, this soft and delicious loaf is made by slow cooking the dough in a crockpot, topped optionally with a golden crust by broiling briefly.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Optional

  • Melted butter or olive oil for brushing top

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare Dough: Stir in the olive oil, then gradually add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead by hand or using a dough hook for 5–7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic in texture.
  3. Shape Dough: Shape the kneaded dough into a ball ready for cooking.
  4. Prepare Crockpot: Line the bottom of a 6-quart crockpot with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Place the shaped dough in the center of the crockpot.
  5. Cook Bread: Cover with the lid and cook on high for 2 to 2½ hours. The bread is done when the top feels firm and its internal temperature reaches approximately 190°F.
  6. Optional Browning: For a golden crust, transfer the cooked bread to a baking sheet and place under the broiler for 2–3 minutes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing to ensure the crumb sets properly.

Notes

  • This bread is best enjoyed fresh the same day but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Feel free to mix in herbs, garlic, or cheese before shaping the dough to enhance flavor.
