Description

Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, churros are a beloved Spanish treat often served with a chocolate dipping sauce or simply rolled in cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  2. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
  3. Heat oil for frying in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil and fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
  5. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll drained churros in the sugar mixture.
  6. Serve warm with optional chocolate sauce.

Notes

  • Use a star tip to get the classic ridged churro shape.
  • Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • Churros are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
  • Add a chocolate or caramel dip for extra indulgence.
