Description

A comforting and hearty spaghetti dish perfect for large gatherings, like church suppers. It’s flavorful, easy to make, and loved by all ages.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  6. Serve the sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.

Notes

  • This dish can be made a day ahead for better flavor.
  • Great for potlucks and can easily be doubled or tripled.
  • Use ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
