- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 lb spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic to the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Serve the sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.
Notes
- This dish can be made a day ahead for better flavor.
- Great for potlucks and can easily be doubled or tripled.
- Use ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
