Description

This Chocolate Chip Butter Tart Pie recipe combines the classic Canadian butter tart with rich semi-sweet chocolate chips and a buttery, gooey filling. Baked in a flaky pie crust, this decadent dessert is perfect for holidays or any sweet occasion, offering a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and chocolatey flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Filling

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare the pie crust by fitting it into a 9-inch pie plate and crimping the edges neatly. Place the crust in the refrigerator to chill while making the filling.
  2. Make Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts if using.
  3. Assemble Pie: Pour the prepared filling evenly into the chilled pie crust. Smooth the top with a spatula to ensure an even surface.
  4. Bake: Bake the pie for 40–45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the filling is set with a slight jiggle in the center. To prevent the crust edges from over-browning, tent them loosely with foil if needed during baking.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely at room temperature. This will help the filling set properly. Serve alone or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a classic finishing touch.

Notes

  • Maple syrup can be used to replace half of the corn syrup for a deeper, more complex flavor.
  • This pie can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before serving for best texture and flavor.
  • You can omit the nuts if you prefer a nut-free version or substitute with your favorite nuts.
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best taste and texture.
