Ingredients
Scale
Chili Mixture
- 2 (15-ounce) cans chili with beans
- 1 (10-ounce) can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
- ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
Wrapped Hot Dogs
- 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough (6 triangles)
- Remaining ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 6 beef smoked sausages (or your favorite hot dogs)
Garnish
- Minced fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Combine: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9×13 inch baking dish, combine the two cans of chili with beans and the can of undrained Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies. Stir the mixture well to blend the flavors evenly. Sprinkle ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the chili mixture.
- Wrap Hot Dogs: Separate the crescent roll dough into 6 individual triangles. Take the remaining ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese and sprinkle it over each dough triangle. Wrap each triangle around one smoked sausage, making sure the ends of the sausage remain exposed for a classic look and easy handling.
- Bake: Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on top of the prepared chili and cheese mixture in the baking dish. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are puffed up, golden brown, and fully cooked through.
- Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven. Optionally garnish with minced fresh parsley to add a fresh burst of color and flavor. Serve warm and enjoy this filling and cheesy chili dog casserole.
Notes
- You can substitute beef smoked sausages with your favorite hot dogs or sausage varieties.
- For less spicy flavor, use mild diced tomatoes instead of Rotel.
- Ensure the crescent rolls are baked fully so they are golden brown and cooked inside.
- This dish reheats well; store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat thoroughly before serving.
- Adding fresh parsley garnish adds a nice color contrast and freshness but is optional.
