These Cheesy BBQ Chicken Sliders are perfect for game day, parties, or a quick and delicious meal. Featuring tender shredded chicken coated in tangy barbecue sauce, melted cheddar or mozzarella cheese, and soft slider buns brushed with garlic butter, these sliders are baked to golden perfection for an irresistible combination of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken (shredded)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • 12 slider buns or Hawaiian rolls

For Topping

  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
  • 1/2 small red onion (thinly sliced, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix chicken with BBQ sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken with the barbecue sauce until all the chicken pieces are evenly coated with sauce.
  3. Assemble slider bases: Carefully slice the slider buns in half horizontally, keeping the top and bottom halves connected. Place the bottom halves of the buns into the prepared baking dish to form the base layer.
  4. Add chicken mixture and toppings: Spread the BBQ chicken mixture evenly over the bottom halves of the buns. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the chicken, then add thinly sliced red onions if using for extra flavor and texture.
  5. Top the sliders: Place the top halves of the slider buns over the filling to complete the sandwich.
  6. Brush with garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush this garlic butter mixture generously over the tops of the sliders to help them brown and add flavor.
  7. Bake covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to heat through and melt the cheese.
  8. Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until the tops of the buns are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and fully melted.
  9. Garnish and serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired, slice between sliders, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for quick and convenient preparation.
  • Try smoked gouda or pepper jack cheese for a different flavor twist.
  • Serve sliders with pickles or coleslaw as sides for a complete meal experience.
