Description

Carne Asada is a flavorful Mexican grilled beef dish, typically made with skirt or flank steak marinated in citrus, garlic, and spices, then grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 pounds flank or skirt steak
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (about 1 orange)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lime juice, orange juice, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, oregano, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Place the steak in a large resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat grill to high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and let excess drip off.
  4. Grill steak for 6-8 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is reached.
  5. Remove steak from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  6. Serve with warm tortillas, salsa, guacamole, or your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight enhances the flavor greatly.
  • Letting the meat rest before slicing helps retain juices.
  • Can also be cooked on a stovetop grill pan if outdoor grill is unavailable.
  • Great for tacos, burritos, or rice bowls.
