Description

A fresh and elegant Burrata Caprese salad featuring creamy burrata cheese, heirloom and cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and a tangy balsamic vinegar dressing, perfect for a quick and flavorful appetizer or light meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Burrata

  • 2 balls of Burrata Cheese, liquid drained
  • 1/4 tsp of Salt
  • 1/8 tsp of Black Pepper
  • 2 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (divided)
  • 5 large leaves of Fresh Basil, chopped (reserved for burrata)

Tomatoes & Dressing

  • 3 large Heirloom Tomatoes
  • 1 cup of Cherry Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp of Salt
  • 1/4 tsp of Black Pepper
  • 10 large leaves of Fresh Basil, chopped (half reserved for tomatoes)
  • 1/4 cup of Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (for tomatoes)

Instructions

  1. Drain Burrata: Drain the liquid from the balls of burrata and set aside to prepare for plating.
  2. Slice Heirloom Tomatoes: Slice the heirloom tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices and arrange them on a plate with edges overlapping each other to create an attractive base.
  3. Add Cherry Tomatoes: Scatter the cherry tomatoes in and around the heirloom tomato slices on the plate for color and texture contrast.
  4. Season Tomatoes: Sprinkle the tomatoes evenly with 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of black pepper to enhance their natural flavors.
  5. Dress Tomatoes: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over the seasoned tomatoes, reserving the other tablespoon for the burrata cheese.
  6. Add Basil to Tomatoes: Chop and sprinkle half of the fresh basil leaves over the tomatoes to add herbal freshness and aroma.
  7. Prepare Burrata: Gently split open each burrata ball with your thumbs and place the cheese carefully on top of the arranged tomatoes.
  8. Season Burrata: Sprinkle the burrata cheese with 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/8 tsp of black pepper to balance its creamy richness.
  9. Dress Burrata: Drizzle the reserved tablespoon of olive oil over the burrata to add smoothness and flavor.
  10. Top with Basil: Garnish the burrata with the remaining chopped basil leaves for a fresh, leafy finish.
  11. Add Balsamic Vinegar: Evenly pour 1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar over the entire salad for a tangy and sweet finish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fresh heirloom and cherry tomatoes for the best flavor and appearance.
  • Drain the burrata well to avoid pooling liquid on the plate.
  • For a vegetarian option, ensure the burrata cheese is made with vegetarian rennet.
  • This salad is best served fresh, do not prepare too far in advance.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially the salt and pepper on the cheese and tomatoes.
